A new, fairer deal on PayAsYouGo credits

We’ve listened to your feedback and have changed the way our PayAsYouGo credits work to give you a better, fairer deal.

A new, fairer deal on PayAsYouGo credits

Now, when you buy new credits on findmypast.co.uk, we’ll give your expired credits back to you, up to a maximum of 280. This applies to any credits that have expired within the last two years.

This is a great opportunity to get a second chance to build your family tree.

Claiming back your expired credits is easy. Just sign in to findmypast.co.uk, click ‘subscribe’ on the top right of the page and choose either 280 or 60 credits.

Once you’ve bought these, you’ll be able to see your new credits total – which will include your expired credits – on the top right of any page when you’re signed in to findmypast.co.uk

Credit pricing changes on findmypast.co.uk

From 1 July 2010 we will be simplifying the pricing of our PayAsYouGo records. Currently there are over 10 different price bands for viewing records which can be quite confusing. From July we will have fewer price bands, grouped into multiples of 5 credits, for example, 5, 10, 15, 20, 25, 30.

In most cases the changes will result in a slight increase in credit prices, in some instances there will be a reduction, and some records will stay the same (for example, 1911 census and passenger lists).

Viewing a birth, marriage or death (BMD) result will cost 5 credits instead of 1, but thanks to the full indexing of the BMDs (more information on this coming soon), overall a BMD search will cost you less, as you will need to view far fewer records to find the one you want.

This is the first time we've increased the prices of our records since we launched them, apart from the slight increase in credits to view 1841-1901 census records in April. Our PAYG credits are more flexible than our competitors' offerings. A subscription offers even more flexibility – view your options on our subscriptions page.

A full breakdown of the price change is included below.

'My account' just got better, new hassle-free subscription option

We’ve added a host of new features to the ‘my account’ section on findmypast.com. As before, you can change your personal details, password, sign-in and email preferences. But now you can also view a history of the payments you’ve made to us, and update or alter your payment details.

Continuous membership

We’ve also added a new ‘continuous membership’ option for subscribers who don’t want the hassle of making a manual payment each time they renew their membership, and to guarantee you get your 20% loyalty discount. (Please note: continuous membership is for subscriptions only, and does not apply to PayAsYouGo credits purchases).

If you enable continuous membership on your subscription:

  • You’ll never miss a payment, and will always get your 20% loyalty discount.
  • Your card details will be stored securely by our online payment provider, DataCash.
  • You can turn continuous membership off (and, indeed, back on again) at any time through ‘my account’.
  • We’ll contact you by email shortly before your payment is due. If you decide you don’t want to renew, you can easily cancel continuous membership through the ‘my subscription’ page within ‘my account’.

How do I start using continuous membership?

If you’re not already using continuous membership, you can activate it through the ‘my subscription’ page within my account.
