20 Jul 2012We add new Chester wills and probate records to our collection
We’ve just added 8,163 new Chester wills and probate records to findmypast.co.uk
The new records cover the period 1711-1772 and represent an important addition to the Chester wills and probate records we published in April this year.
Our Chester wills and probate records include all surviving original wills of Cheshire residents proved at the Chester diocesan consistory court 1492-1857 and registered copies made at Chester Probate Registry 1858-1911.
The Chester wills and probate records form part of our Cheshire Collection
We are working in partnership with Cheshire Archives and Local Studies to bring you these records.

Grateful though I am for the extras, the April lot were supposed to be “all surviving original wills of Cheshire residents proved at the Chester diocesan consistory court 1492-1857″. After all, this isn’t a trivial number – another 8,000 on top of 113,000
So what are these, and can we look forward to any others in the future? I’ve no problem if some batches were missed, I’d just like to know what this means?
Hi Adrian,
These latest records weren’t included in the batch of records we originally published in April. This was because we didn’t receive all the records in time for the first publication – apologies for the confusion.
We do have some further records in the pipeline – we can’t give you any other details at the moment but we’ll let you know more as soon as we can!
Hope this helps.
Thanks,
Jess (findmypast.co.uk digital content manager)
Thanks Jess – I can cope with people not passing you everything you need – not sure how you’d ever know that until the remainder turn up!
